Summary: Inspects and makes critical decisions in the field for development services, protecting life and safety through electrical, plumbing, mechanical and building inspections; oversees and manages the day-to-day field contractor operations to the public; city-wide resource for all departments as the Master Plumber and Mechanic.
Responsibilities: This position will develop, design, coordinate, implement and monitor projects impacting water/wastewater delivery/collection/disposal systems.
The specialist will perform backflow testing; build, test and repair equipment such as a meter flow bench; and troubleshoot equipment issues.
This position will supervise, review and inspect the work of staff and outside contractors responsible for maintenance services, field activities and other system activities; as well as answer property owners and general public questions & perform building inspections related to life and safety issues.
This position is require to work outside scheduled work hours as required in emergency situations to maintain proper operation of systems and equipment for 24/7 delivery of water and wastewater services.
Holds on-call duty as assigned and as required in emergency situations.
Qualifications: High school diploma or G.
E.
D.
required, training in mechanical systems, building trades, equipment maintenance, water/wastewater operations (or equivalent knowledge from related field) preferred.
Requires at least two years increasingly responsible experience in relevant areas, including but not limited to: water distribution, wastewater collections, building plumbing/mechanical/electrical systems and building inspection.
Possession of, or ability to obtain, a Residential Plumbing Inspector International Code Council certifications as required by job assignment within 6 months of date of hire.
Possession of certificate and/or license as a minimum of journeyman level Plumbing from a recognized certifying body or institution; Master Plumber or Master Mechanical preferred.
This position requires the possession of, or the ability to obtain, an appropriate valid driver's license.
The successful candidate must pass the background check and post-offer City physical and drug screen.
