Overview:
The Heavy Equipment Operator I - II will safely operate heavy construction equipment for earthwork construction projects.
May include operating multiple types of heavy equipment such as trucks, front-end loaders, track loaders, rubber tire loaders, backhoes, excavators, hoe rams, bulldozers, scrapers, compactors, or skid steers onsite to excavate, move, grade and stabilize materials in a safe and efficient manner.
Responsibilities:
Observe and comply with all company and specific site safety and project policies
Supply input to Job Safety Analysis (JSA) and frequent improvements or changes to Job Safety Analysis Plan (JSAP)
Operate heavy construction equipment in a safe and appropriate manner to mitigate risk of injury, property damage, and the loss of life in accordance to company policies
Perform daily pre-inspection of equipment to ensure it's safe and fit for duty, conduct on-going maintenance checks, and manage the daily custody of construction equipment
Conduct constant surveillance of surroundings before and during the operation of all equipment to ensure safe ground and slope conditions; maintain an adequate distance between other equipment, RECON team members and structures in the immediate work area
Communicate clearly using radio contact, visible verbal, and nonverbal hand signals to determine where materials should be safely placed, loaded or unloaded
Work closely with the Foreman and Superintendent to perform work tasks with the highest level of quality, take direction from more senior level equipment operators on the team to ensure production remains on schedule and all construction work is performed safely
May assist in lifting, positioning and securing of materials and work pieces during installation
May perform a variety of manual tasks for extended periods of time
Responsible for care and custody of equipment being operated, including daily cleaning and maintenance
Report all equipment maintenance issues to Superintendent
Perform other miscellaneous duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Knowledgeable in OSHA regulations regarding excavation methods and practices
May require the ability to read survey stakes for alignment and grading
Perform duties of equipment operator while using different levels of PPE, which may include respiratory equipment
Perform duties of equipment operator while working in all safe outdoor weather conditions
Able to read and properly interpret load charts for associated heavy equipment and manufacturer approved attachments
Required to pass skills test prior to operating heavy equipment
Able to understand and demonstrate limitations of equipment
Reliably show up on time for work five to seven days a week as required
Have access to reliable transportation
Ability to travel over extended periods of time on short notice
Ability to read, write, and understand math and English
Education/Experience
Three or more years of equipment operating experience
Field verification of operator experience
40-hour HAZWOPER training with current 8-Hour HAZWOPER refresher
Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC)
