Job Description Summary
The Assistant Road & Bridge Director is responsible for using a set of supervisory, equipment, computer and social skills including but not limited to the oversite of the day to day operation of the Road and Bridge Department including but not limited to gravel and paved road maintenance: This includes the blading of gravel roads, the rocking of the same, mowing, drainage issues, tree and brush removal, paving, chip-sealing, pothole patching, signage, pavement marking, answering and working with employees and residents on issues on that pertain to them, the oversite of winter operations including the call-out and supervision of the snow removal crew.
Job Responsibilities Duties and Responsibilities: Supervises subordinates with respect to accountability for performance and behavior including approval of leave to conform with staffing needs, discipline of employees, staff development functions, completion of performance evaluations and other personnel related functions.
Participates in hiring and promotion process.
Supervises the day-to-day operations of the road and bridge department to perform maintenance activities on the gravel road system including grading, ditching, rocking, brush removal, mowing and snow removal on said roads.
The sizing, verification of the diameter, and installation of entrance and crossroad culverts.
The oversight and application of the materials on the residential and county dust control programs.
The assurance that material delivered to the job site is within accepted specification.
Distributes daily assignments to workers and determines priorities for meeting deadlines.
Inspects and reviews work of crews in order to ensure that corrections, adjustments, or changes are completes.
Coordinates activities of various units within the division to ensure work flows smoothly between individuals and that the work complies with policies and procedures.
Instruct crews on proper completion of task.
Analyzes production statistics, reports, and implements procedure modification to ensure high levels of productivity and efficiency.
Documents and maintains records of work crew operations including projects completed, materials used, and total amount of labor time used to complete the project.
Ensures work crews have proper tools and equipment, that the equipment is operating properly, and oversees the repair of malfunctioning equipment.
Receives complaints from the public, inspects complaint site, documents information relating to problems, and formulates solutions.
Responds to questions from other offices or the public.
Attend Department and Safety Meetings.
Create and send monthly spreadsheet to water district for bulk water used for projects.
Analyze and document roadway surface for upcoming years projects.
Assist in preparing and presenting the Annual Budget to the County Commission including to not limited to planning of equipment purchases, asphalt maintenance, new road construction, manpower and all related road maintenance issues.
Contact and negotiate prices with vendors for commodities for upcoming year.
Prepare estimates for quantities of commodities for upcoming years projects.
Oversee snow removal during winter, flood or any other emergency events.
Acts in the capacity of the Road and Bridge Director in all matters concerning the Department in his absence.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities - Position Requirements: High School Diploma or equivalent required; three to five years of related experience Valid driver"s license required.
CDL preferred.
Knowledge: Computer software programs and applications such as MS Office.
County and/or city government administration.
Personnel management for hiring disciplinary procedures and terminations.
Public works construction and maintenance equipment types, use, operating characteristics, and maintenance requirements.
Principles of office management of construction and the ability to apply these principles to office operations or construction situations.

Independently resolve and correct discrepancies by making changes and/or corrections to the budget/financial paperwork.
